Thanks so much for visiting my website!
I am a plein air landscape and studio painter based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Twelve years ago I left a career in interior design to follow my dream of becoming a full-time painter. Through my education and experience in the design field I had developed a strong foundation in architectural rendering and drawing, composition and understanding colour relationships and wanted to move that experience forward to a career in fine arts. To further my overall art education, I’ve travelled to painting workshops hosted by some of North America’s most renowned landscape and still-life painters. I continue to build and grow my knowledge base by availing myself of their expertise by continued connection through online courses and mentoring sessions. I mostly paint from life, and when on-site experience is not practical, or possible ( private commissions, for example ), or the project requires a larger canvas size, I work from plein air sketches and reference photos in my studio.
My work follows a deeply-felt response to the beauty of the world around me. When the weather allows, you’ll find me painting outdoors, spending my time pretty close to home: on the woodsy, watery North Shore and out to the airy expansiveness of the Fraser Valley. There’s so much variety and interest here...it would take a lifetime to exhaust the inspiration offered. I also have the good fortune to live on property large enough to support a small urban garden where I grow flowers to use as subjects for my floral paintings. I’m happiest when I’m painting on location: collecting information through painted oil sketches, photography, and by experiencing ‘sense of place’. Listening closely, standing still and by being very, very quiet...
I trust this sense of joy is reflected in the paintings I make, as a gentle reminder of how generous, comforting and wondrous nature is for us all.
